Tomorrow I’m hoping to purchase a plastic crow for my desk following a request I put out on Facebook. My artist mate Paul Bommer sent me a photo of a corvid he’d seen in a shop window only a stone’s throw away from Liverpool Street Station, London. At first I thought he’d sent me a photo of a flying cat however once I turned my mobile ‘phone the other way around and put on my reading glasses I was instantly smitten. He’s a beauty. My aunt once had a one legged pet crow called ‘Coco’. Quite a character he was. Several people have offered to send me crows from their garden and such like but there are a murder of them hanging about here in the suburbs. They are tricky to photograph, huffing away indignantly on my every approach. Fine creatures indeed. I’d quite like a stuffed rook. Anyone?chicken1

Am away in Bourgogne, France, on an artists’ retreat staying in a chateau surrounded by several cocks acting as security guards. I thought I’d spend the week drawing these formidable indignant creatures. The sketch was photographed using my digital camera, the images were then fed into Photoshop.Artist retreat Bourgogne

Here’s the fancy version:
