Pantomime Dame-it’s the silly seasonPosted by Chichi in Cartoons and Illustration, tags: Artiste, Circus, womenThis early evening, after a good hour drooling over a book entitled ‘The Age of Titian,’ I bounced to the drawing board inspired but ended up drawing this fellow. Yes, talk about anti-climax, it aint Titian, it’s the silly season. Moons ago, when I was an actor (burnt my Equity card back in 2003) I played Dandini and the Wicked Witch in a pantomime version of Cinderella. Getting booed off stage for the right reasons was hugely pleasurable, I loved playing the witch. Kjartan Poskitt wrote the panto. For those young bloods amongst you, Kjartan Poskitt was, back then, not only a writer but made regular tv appearances explaining maths and science to kids. He used to visit us during rehearsals which was always nerve wracking. The show, an all singing, all dancing, fine panto acting production included a memorable audience participatory drinking song: This understated panto dame is actually doing a tapis walk. Note the Titian hair.

Illustration Friday ‘Crunchy’Posted by Chichi in Cartoons and Illustration, tags: Artiste, Circus, Performer, womenThere’s a honeycomb candy bar in the UK called Crunchie which is just YUM. This is how I feel when I eat it -my brain opiates up to the nines sending me trapeze-high-as-a-kite. Saddly, I don’t look like the woman in the illustration, for a start, her thighs aint wobbly, neither do I enjoy heights. Unfortunately, I don’t get the same hit when eating lettuce, no matter how crunchy. I eat a lot of lettuce.
